Stoughton High School seeks to foster the development of responsible citizens who value high academic expectations, diversity, and excellence.
Starting now, The Knight will select and honor a Stoughton High student who exemplifies our mission statement through their hard work, leadership and special achievements that benefit Stoughton High School and the community.
Our first ever Knight of the Month is Destiny De La Rosa. Destiny is a sophomore here at Stoughton High and is everything but ordinary. Some of my Knight readers might know her through the Stoughton Library and the O' Donnell Middle School for Homework Club where she volunteers her time. Other extra curricular activities Destiny participates in are Step Up to Excellence, Peer Mediation, and the Buddies Club.
Most of all, Destiny is noted as the designer of the 2010-11 SHS Handbook and Agenda. Out of several other well-worthy artworks, her design won. I had the lovely honor to speak with Destiny about this accomplishment of hers.
What was inspiration behind the agenda cover? In other words, why did you draw your agenda cover?
Well, it was extra credit for science class. I was in Mr. Beaulieu's class last (freshman) year. And well, I needed the extra credit (laughs). I love the arts. I'm really into music as well. So I went for it.
What was the process of the agenda cover competition?
Anyone could have done it. It had to be rectangular sized. The drawing could've been computer designed or drawn by hand. And so, I was so surprised when Ms. Dancey brought me into her class where about 20 students voted.
How did you feel when you found out you won?
I was really surprised that so many people voted on my agenda cover to win. I was happy too. (Laughs) And of course, I'm really proud of my work. That's probably why I was a little shocked that my name wasn't in the handbook. It's a nice feeling to see my work displayed all throughout Stoughton High.
